Ninja Spirit

Ninja Spirit, known in Japan as Saigo no Nindou, is a classic action-platformer developed and published by Irem for the PC Engine, released in 1990. It is a port of the 1988 arcade game of the same name, and it is widely regarded as one of the best action games on the platform. You play as a ninja warrior on a quest for revenge, fighting through hordes of enemies with a variety of weapons and abilities.

The gameplay involves side-scrolling action with a focus on fast-paced combat and platforming. You can use a sword, shurikens, and a chain sickle, and you can also perform a "shadow" technique that creates a duplicate of yourself to attack enemies from multiple angles. The PC Engine version is a faithful port that captures the arcade's intense action and detailed sprite work, with smooth scrolling and responsive controls.

A unique feature is the ability to switch between different weapon types on the fly, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The game is known for its challenging difficulty, requiring quick reflexes and precise timing to survive. The atmospheric music and sound effects add to the immersive ninja experience.

Ninja Spirit was later re-released on the Wii Virtual Console and other platforms, introducing it to a new generation of players. It remains a beloved classic for its tight controls, challenging gameplay, and authentic ninja atmosphere.
