Mizubaku Adventure

Mizubaku Adventure, known internationally as Liquid Kids, is a side-scrolling platformer developed by Taito and released for the PC Engine on January 17, 1992. You play as Hipopo, a young character from the land of Woody-Lake, who must use an endless supply of "water bombs" to defeat enemies and save his tribe from the Fire Devil. The game was released exclusively in Japan for this platform.

The gameplay is fast-paced and focuses on using your water bombs strategically. You can throw them at enemies, and they leave a rush of water that can further harm foes. A unique feature is the ability to charge your attack by holding the button down, unleashing a larger, more powerful water bomb. You can also collect items to upgrade your weapons.

A distinctive element of the game is its charming, whimsical art style, which stands in contrast to many other action games of the era. The levels are filled with colorful, detailed sprites that bring the world to life. The PC Engine version is a faithful port of the arcade original, capturing its vibrant aesthetic and tight controls.

Mizubaku Adventure was later re-released digitally on the Wii's Virtual Console in 2008. It remains a cult classic, praised for its charming presentation and solid platforming action, and is a notable title in the PC Engine library.
