Metal Gear

Metal Gear is a stealth-action game published by Ultra Games for the NES, based on the classic MSX2 game by Hideo Kojima. You play as Solid Snake, infiltrating an enemy fortress to stop a nuclear weapon called Metal Gear. The gameplay involves sneaking, avoiding guards, and rescuing prisoners, with a focus on stealth rather than direct combat. A unique feature is the "stealth" system – you must stay out of sight, use cardboard boxes to hide, and avoid security cameras and searchlights. You can also use weapons like a pistol and grenades, but ammo is limited. The NES version has simplified graphics and a new soundtrack. A trivia: the NES port was not supervised by Hideo Kojima and includes several changes from the original, such as a different map and simplified gameplay, which Kojima has disowned. The graphics are detailed with a military theme, featuring realistic sprites and atmospheric backgrounds. The music is suspenseful and atmospheric, composed by the Konami sound team. Critics praised the stealth mechanics but noted the differences from the original. It supports one player. The final boss is a supercomputer that controls Metal Gear. Metal Gear is a classic in the stealth genre and a pioneer of its mechanics.
