ActRaiser 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed action-platformer, developed and published by Enix for the SNES, released in 1993, and it continues the story of the god from the first game, but with a much heavier focus on action-platforming and a reduced emphasis on city-building. You play as the god, fighting through a series of side-scrolling action levels, using a sword and a variety of magical powers to defeat enemies and bosses, with a focus on fast-paced combat, precision platforming, and challenging difficulty.
A unique feature is the "action" focus – unlike the first game, which had a balance of action and simulation, this game is almost entirely action-platforming, with a greater emphasis on combat and platforming challenges, and it is known for its high difficulty level, which is significantly harder than the first game. The game also features a new "flight" mechanic where you can fly for short periods, adding a new dimension to the platforming. The game includes a series of levels, each with unique enemies, obstacles, and challenging boss encounters.
The graphics are more detailed and colorful than the first game, with improved sprites and backgrounds, and a more epic and dark fantasy style. The music is excellent, composed by Yuzo Koshiro, with a fast-paced and dramatic soundtrack that matches the game's intense action. Critics praised the action, the graphics, and the music, but some noted the difficulty could be frustrating. It supports one player. ActRaiser 2 is a challenging and impressive action-platformer that is a great sequel for fans of the series.
